The winner from each category will win a £500 prize after they have performed on November 22 from 5.30pm, while runner-ups in each category will get £250.

To win they will need to perform one Christmas carol or hymn and one contemporary Christmas song at the Victorian market. It will also feature 120 Christmas-themed stalls and live music in the Victorian band stand including a festive fiddler and brass bands.

The winners will then perform at Gloucester Quays' second Christmas market – the Festive Fayre – over the weekend of December 14 to 16.

There they can raise money for their favourite charity at the event, which will boast stalls for last-minute Christmas gifts.

Kerry Milliken, of Gloucester Quays, said: "Choirs are being encouraged to get plenty of practice in before the night and to bring their friends to cheer them on.

"The panel will be scoring choirs on how tuneful they are, entertainment value and if they look like they're having fun and getting everyone in the spirit."

The winners will follow in the footsteps of last year's winners – Maidenhill School Choir, Gloucester and District Christian Choir and Cotswold Youth Singers.
