Car explodes in Cheltenham
A CAR exploded in Cheltenham early this morning.
Residents in Malvern Place were woken by the shocking sound of a black Fiat Leon bursting into flames at around 6.15am.
A police spokesman said the incident was not being treated as a suspected arson attack, and that a fault with the battery is believe to be the cause of the fire.
The emergency services were called to the scene at 6.10am and firefighters spent around 20 minutes tackling the blaze.

What caused you to look out of the window in the direction of the car at 06:10?
......
Did you make any attempt to extinguish the fire yourself?

“oh Tim you're so sharp...
...however it says the car burst into flames around 6.15. It could well have been seen emitting smoke or flames before that, hence the first call to the F&RS being at 6.10.
No more questions m'lud.”

“So it caught fire, not exploded. Please stop dramatising things like this. There is an actual danger to people who are involved in accidents from this sensationalism. Well meaning passers by dragging people out of crashed cars that are smoking lightly "because it'll explode". Cars just don't explode, but spinal injuries very quickly turn into paralysis when a patient is moved.”
