CARDIFF coach Dai Young has admitted he has no idea which way Gareth Delve's decision on his future will go.

Former Wales prop Young said Cardiff had put a 'very strong offer' on the table to tempt the number eight to his hometown club next season.

But with Melbourne Rebels, Bath and Gloucester also in the chase, Young knows the opposition is strong.

Asked if he knew anything about Delve's decision, Young said: "I don't have a clue. I'm buying papers the same as you are to find out.

"We've made no secret of it. We've spoken to him, we've put an offer to him. We've tried to persuade him that we want him here at the Blues and for his Wales ambitions he would be better off in Wales.

"We've done as much as we can, now it's up to Gareth to make that decision.

"I think it will boil down to whether he wants to play for Wales or not. If he goes to Melbourne that's the end of it on the Welsh front. And I don't think he's ruled out staying at Gloucester.

"From our point of view we have put a very strong offer in, we've met and talked to him. But it's his decision and a big one for him and it doesn't look like he's going to rush into it."

Meanwhile, former Cardiff fly-half Nicky Robinson was the architect of his former club's downfall at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday, pulling the strings in Gloucester's 29-18 win which featured a hat-trick for James Simpson-Daniel.

Young describe Robinson's performance as 'typical'.

"It was good to see him back," he said. "It was a typical Nicky performance. He did some excellent things and some things which I'm sure he felt he could have done a little bit better on.

"But I thought his kicking game out of hand was excellent and was a big factor in the struggle we had to get any field position.

"He gave them direction which was what he did for us last year. He gave us strong field position to mount attacks which was what he did for Gloucester on Sunday."

“I like Dai Young - a blunt, down to earth character.

Watched highlights of the Glos v Cardiff match on the welsh TV channel. His interview was the only part of the commentary I could understand.

He obviously doesn't speak Welsh - unlike Nicky Robinson.”

“The problem is that Magners League don't play at full strength. They save their best for Heineken Cup and Internationals. That means there is more competition and more intensity about GP rugby. On the other hand, if he moves to Cardiff they will make him available whenever Gatland wants him. Even if Gloucester were willing to let him go when Gatland wants him PR wil not allow it. Sale have found this out. Ultimately, if he's playing well enough Gatland will pick him as he does Peel.”

“A step back ? I hardly think Glous are any great shakes at the moment, and I think you'll find that you've lost 4 times in the last 2 seasons to Cardiff - once by 50 points ! Glous are no match for a full strength Cardiff team. You're right about the empty stadium though.”

“Let us be real. A rugby career is short and likely to become shorter as players grow ever bigger and stronger. If most working people were offered seriously good terms and conditions to do their job in their home town it would take some thinking over. I'm not sure I would want to be considering that kind of life changing decision until the playing season was over. Let the man take the time he needs to make the right decision and make sure he knows just how much his continued contribution in the Cherry & White would be appreciated, by me anyway.”

“The fact that Delve hasn't signed on the dotted line for Glos speaks volumes - if he was going to sign for us he'd have done it a while ago surely!!”
