Celebration of firefighting at open day event
FIFTY years of firefighting from a Cheltenham station is being celebrated with an action-packed open day.
Cheltenham Fire Station is throwing its doors open this Saturday afternoon to mark its golden anniversary.
There will be displays showing the history of firefighting at the station and vintage fire engines, including one from the television series London's Burning.
Retired firefighters will be returning to the Keynsham Road building to reminisce and talk to the public.
The open day runs from noon to 4pm and features demonstrations from the rope rescue team and of a car being cut open by a road traffic collision extrication team.
These will be followed by an explosive chip pan demonstration and a rescue by Cheltenham's retained firefighters.
People will also be able to explore the station and children can climb into the fire engines.
The current Cheltenham Fire Station in Keynsham Road is set to close in the future to be demolished and completely rebuilt as one of four new fire stations in Gloucestershire.

“I am gutted I missed this, my 3 year old son (who loves Fireman Sam) would have loved it and it was his birthday Saturday too - wish I had of known it was on :-(”
