Location & Overview

Majorca, found in the Mediterranean Sea is largest of the Balearic Islands. The island is known for its thriving tourism industry and one of the top destinations for the British holidaymaker. According to a recent survey by Post Office Travel Money, prices of many holiday items have dropped as much as 40 per cent, making your cash go that little bit further - great news in these tough financial times! Holidays in Spain are also popular with tourists from Ireland, Germany and Scandinavia, and due to its prime location just off the east coast of Spain, a holiday to Majorca is just the ticket. Holidays to the European continent are the most popular, with Brits accounting for 80% of all holidays abroad.

The prime location of Majorca within Europe makes it very easy to get to from UK, benefiting from shorter and cheaper flights than many other European destinations.

Why visit?

Majorca has a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot, bright summers where temperatures range between 70-80?F, making for perfect holiday weather. Spectacular beaches and stunning rural landscapes characterise the island, with fine examples of Gothic architecture breaking up the beautiful and natural views. The grand Gothic cathedral found in the island's capital of Palma, is just one stunning example.

Families can enjoy the wealth of activity a Majorca holiday has to offer, including water sports and beach games or the laidback lifestyle of one of its quieter, picturesque villages. Puerta Pollensa is a favourite with families and couples, boasting a pretty fishing harbour and backed by a stunning mountain range. A pine-studded beach and beautiful town square flank the resort. Enjoy a traditional meal at one of the many waterfront restaurants or pavement cafes offering mouthwatering tapas and paella, washed down with sangria.

The lively resort of Magaluf, popular with a younger crowd, is a particular favourite among British sun seekers and plays host to one of the biggest clubs in Europe, BCM. Along with the increasingly popular Alcudia, the party never stops. Crowds flock to its neon signs and the endless happy hours offered by the many bars and nightspots.

Former fishing village Cala d'Or lies on the island's craggy east coast and is one of the many secluded sandy coves that make up this beautiful coastline. The resort's small-town atmosphere is perfect for families with young children, and its spectacular beaches and shallow waters with lots of kids' activities on offer.

According to Post Office Travel, Spain is the cheapest Eurozone destination, and coupled with cheap holidays and late deals, this makes this beautiful Balearic island an ideal holiday choice. Flights are available from Birmingham, Luton, Manchester and London Gatwick.
