Check out your new look Echo
The Gloucestershire Echo has a new look from today – why don’t you give it a try?
It has a new appearance to suit the modern day and this wonderful county where we all live.
-

With the redesign comes a continued commitment to be a paper at the heart of its communities.
There will be stories about the area where you live - and we’ll also look at the big issues in-depth. We’ll bring quality writing and photographs that will follow our vision to be “at the heart of all things local”.

More than ever before, it is important that we strive to put our communities first - and I believe that the Echo is now better placed than ever to be your voice.
On top of our daily pages for Tewkesbury and the Cotswolds, we’ve recently also introduced pages of specific local content for different parts of Cheltenham. The areas served are: Bishop’s Cleeve (Monday), Up Hatherley (Tuesday), Whaddon (Wednesday), Leckhampton and Charlton Kings (Thursday), Hester’s Way (Friday) and Prestbury (Saturday).
We also hand over sections of the paper to specific interest areas every day of the week. Monday: unrivalled coverage of the weekend’s sporting events; Tuesday: Business Week; Wednesday: Young Sport, focusing on youth and school sport; Thursday: Find a Property, for all your property needs; Friday: Crackerjack, our entertainment guide; and Saturday: Weekend, our award-winning leisure supplement.
Have a look at the paper – and please let me know what you think.
Happy reading,
Kevan Blackadder,
Editor

“Put it all on-line & save all those transport costs, trees, ink & street sellers. My devastating prediction is that one day The Citizen/Echo will become a weekly only paper, with daily reports/updates on-line. Then a few years after that it will be on-line only with a special edition for i-phone's & blackberry's”

“The new typeface is smaller and more difficult to read than the old Ariel font. The layout seems more cramped too. Bring back the old Echo!!!”

“The question really is whether a local newspaper can survive in the new media age?
This may just be a case of re-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.”

“Is there a bigger insult than saying the layout is like the SN&J? That has to be the worst laid and subbed paper ever!
It looks OK to me - times are hard in the newspaper industry and this is a good initiative.”

“It's an interesting step. Reading today's Echo, there's much more text, and the headlines are much wordier than previously. I like the suggestion that the Echo is catering towards a more informed audience - I hope this will pay dividends in sales. That said, the overall layout is a bit like the Stroud News and Journal, and I really don't like the new masthead...”

“At a loose end Matt?
The thing with new stuff is that people don't like change.
It was the same with the new look Thisisgloucestershire site when it was launched last year.
But everyone will get used to it in the none to distant future and find something else to moan about.”
