Unlike many celebrated chefs David Everitt-Matthias has a far greater appetite for the graft of his kitchen than the glamour of television.

For the past 25 years he has not missed a single service at two-Michelin star restaurant Le Champignon Sauvage.

David said he had agreed to feature on the popular programme – as well as an episode of Hairy Bikers three days earlier – to mark the restaurant's 25th anniversary.

He said: "It'll be a new experience for me – especially as I will be closing for the first time ever.

"I couldn't possibly keep the restaurant open while I am away though. I wouldn't be able to concentrate properly on what I am doing. I'm from a slightly archaic school of thought that when people come to my restaurant they are paying to be served by me.

"That is what I have always done. We are closed on Sundays and Mondays and we have shut to go on the odd holiday over the years, but aside from that I haven't missed a service."

He added: "I was lucky enough to be asked to do a couple of things on TV so I thought, since we just celebrated our 25th anniversary, I would take them up. I thoroughly enjoyed filming for the Hairy Bikers – they were great guys. I'm looking forward to Saturday Kitchen too."
