Cheltenham General A&E will not be closed
But NHS Gloucestershire has now confirmed that this is not the case, although the county's accident and emergency facilities are 'under review'.
The news emerged this morning and will be a welcome relief for people who feared that the A&E department would be shut to save money.

“Gloucester Royal and Cheltenham General may only be 8 or so miles apart, but in rush hour that can take over an hour to travel.”

“aroakley - I guess you live on the Gloucester side of Cheltenham. From where we live it would take at least 25 minutes just to get to the Golden Valley Bypass, although an ambulance would do it quicker. Not very good for an emergency.”

“aroakley....
Do you not understand that CGH also covers the north cotswolds for your info that is:
Moreton in the Marsh
Bourton on the Water
Blockley
Guiting Power
These are just some of the places out on the North side of Cheltenham.
Do you not understand that God For-bid if there was a serious collision another 8.3 mies (18 mins Travell time) (A40) not 6 as you'd like to say, could be a matter of LIFE AND DEATH.
Also for your info If you went along the A46 (Shurdington Rd) it becomes 9.4 miles and 21 mins travelling time
Not only would it be a matter of distance, time and possible Life & Death, but, also they'd be cutting staff. More pressure put on the existing staff
When GRH is full to capasity they divert over to CGH what will happen when GRH is full and CGH is MINOR INJURIES ONLY?????”

“Why not downgrade it to minor injuries? Why does Gloucestershire need two major A&E hospitals within 6 miles of each other? It's duplication, waste and spreading precious resources too thinly. I could understand the argument if they were twenty miles apart or separated by a wide river, but 6 miles apart with two dual carriageways and numerous back roads connecting them? That's just daft.”

“I heard Chelt A & E will become 'MINOR INJURIES' Unit
They said that the Maternity Unit WOULD NOT GO!!!!!
Where is it now?
Childrens Ward!!!!!
Where is it Now?
Stroke Unit!!!!
Where is it now?
Therefore, I can only assume that Major Accidents will also go to Glos Royal Hospital!!!!!
Along with the above named!!!!”
