TRAINS were delayed for more than hour yesterday after a large tree fell between Cheltenham Spa and Abbotswood station.

The tree, which blocked the Up Main line, had been struck by the train.

The driver working the 11.45am Cardiff to Nottingham service made an emergency call and stopped all other trains.

Workers with chainsaws and a mobile operations manager helped reopen the line for trains to pass around 1pm.

“Tim - you're not the only one wondering that. It says it was the Up line blocked, which I assume means the northbound line - north of Cheltenham the next station (operational) is Ashchurch, and thereafter Bromsgrove.

Looks like it means Abbotswood junction near Worcester, where the Bristol-Birmingham line connects to the Cotswold Line (Oxford-Worcester line). Where there isn't a station.

So no idea where TiG get "Abbotswood station" from, because I doubt it came from Network Rail's spokesman, unless he likes to invent fantasy stations for the fun of it - or to confuse dopey local journalists...”
