Cheltenham Town: Benson confirms Robins approach
Swindon Town striker Paul Benson has confirmed Cheltenham Town have made an approach to sign him on loan with a permanent move.
The 33-year-old's loan with League One strugglers Portsmouth expired today and he has returned to his parent club to discuss his next move.

Paul Benson could be on his way to Cheltenham Town
Benson said: "I think Cheltenham have an offer on the table at the moment - a loan with a view to a permanent in the summer - and Swindon are quite keen for me to do that.
"I'll see how the land lies at Swindon and how it goes from there."

Benson had been keen to extend his stay at Portsmouth, but the cash-strapped club were unable to contribute enough towards his weekly wage.
Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio has already gone on record as saying Benson has received an "excellent" offer from a promotion-chasing club near to Swindon.
Essex-born Benson made his name at Dagenham and Redbridge, earning a move to Charlton Athletic before joining Swindon last January and helping them to the League Two title.

“From the article Alberto, and from what I've read on the BBC site, it seems as if Chelts offer is the only 1 on the table for Benson, as he previously turned down Bradford. Benson is just the kind of target man we need, someone who can help both Duffy and Harrod get into double figures by the end of the season. Think we also need a young Championship level striker to help out for the rest of the season, plus an experienced CB to cover for Elliott and Bennett.”

“PDC didn't say close to Swindon - he said 'close to home'. Whether that 'home' means Swindon or home as in Benson's home (he is from Essex) is unclear. Therefore the club PDC could have been talking about could have been Southend, or Gillingham.”
