Marlon Pack admits he has been stranded in no man's land, with his move from Cheltenham Town to Swindon Town hanging in the balance.

The hugely popular 21-year-old midfielder has been one of the driving forces behind the Robins' improvement under the management of Mark Yates since arriving permanently from Portsmouth in the summer of 2011 after a successful loan stint.

Swindon wide man Luke Rooney will join Cheltenham on loan as part of the Pack deal if it can be finalised as planned.

Pack was at the County Ground until yesterday evening, with the move all set to be completed, but complications at the Swindon end meant the deal could not be cleared before the 11pm deadline.

Pack has not trained with Cheltenham today, but will instead work in the gym with fitness trainer Ian Hutton.

He plans to watch the Robins' home match against Torquay United tomorrow, but he will not be in the squad.

Pack said: "I honestly don't know what's happening at the moment. I didn't think it was right to train with Cheltenham today because the gaffer has his team sorted and I'm going to do a session with Ian.

"I will watch the game and then I literally don't know what's going to happen, but I am still a Cheltenham player at the moment.

"I think the plan is to get things done when the emergency window opens again next week, but it's a weird one."

Pack heard on Monday that League One promotion chasers Swindon were keen to take him on loan with a view to a permanent move in the summer.

"The move seemed right for all parties," Pack said.

"It would be an opportunity for me to play in League One, for a team pushing for the Championship so when I heard about the interest I had to get my head around it quickly.

"I left the County Ground at 8pm last night having signed and I thought I was a Swindon player.

"But my agent got in touch and explained the situation and I just have to sit tight now."

Pack has been in touch with his good friend Matt Ritchie, who left Swindon to join Bournemouth for £500,000 earlier this week.

"Matt had a great time at Swindon and he had nothing but good words to say about the club," Pack said.

"It's a shame he's gone, but I now have to take it day by day and see what comes out."

Pack has been through an emotional rollercoaster, having said his Cheltenham Town goodbyes yesterday.

"I will be there tomorrow to support my mates and I have made a lot of good friends at Cheltenham, who will be friends for life," he said.

Pack made 115 starts and two substitute appearances for Cheltenham, scoring 11 goals.

If he does depart, he will be remembered as one of the finest passers and most technically gifted players to represent the club.

“If I were Marlon I would bite on the humuluity button and tap on MY's door asking to come back. He's quality and I don't deny him a go in a higher league (probably n better money. But he's swapping compararatve stability for the madhouse and will hopefully be in Div 1 with the Robs next year!”
