Cheltenham Town midfielder Frankie Artus has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a cracked fibula.

The left-footed former Bristol City player scored the Robins' goal at Barnet, firing in a 25-yard free-kick after only 65 seconds.

But he hobbled off in the 33rd minute after receiving a knock to his lower leg and an X-ray has confirmed there has been a break.

Artus joined Cheltenham from City during the summer after previous loan spells at the Abbey Business Stadium.

"Frankie will have another X-ray in a month to check that the healing process is taking place," Robins senior sports therapist Ian Weston said.

"There are no major concerns about the injury and he will be out for around six weeks."

Robins boss Mark Yates said: "It's a big blow for us and an unexpected one from the challenge put in on Frankie.

"He has been good for us this season and he will be missed, but we have to get on with it and it will give someone else a chance."

Yates said that central defender Martin Riley is not in contention to return for Saturday's home match against Stevenage as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

Artus' injury means that Yates is unlikely to send any more young players out on loan. Both Josh Emery and Jake Lee are currently at Cirencester Town, but Marley Watkins, Kyle Haynes and Theo Lewis are now set to stay put.

“I do hope the injury curse we seem to have had over the last few seasons isn't returning yet again. I guess thou, midefield is where we have the most cover, so hopefully it shouldn't affect us too much.
Bad luck Frankie - great goal on Sat - let's have some of those when you return.”
