Cheltenham Town video: Mark Yates calls for more from everyone at club

MARK Yates says everyone at Cheltenham Town – himself included – must give more to avoid their promotion chance slipping away.

The Robins make their first-ever trip to Fleetwood Town's Highbury Stadium tonight bidding to put their push for a top-three place back on track after six draws in their last nine League Two games.

They were fortunate to leave Accrington Stanley with a point on Saturday and Yates (pictured) knows they must improve quickly if they are to be in with a chance of claiming automatic promotion for the first time in the club's Football League history.

"I wouldn't say anyone is really on top of their game at the moment," Yates said.

"Marlon Pack has come back in and been different class and Scott Brown made some decent saves at Accrington, but we really need to stand up and be counted and that goes for everyone, including me."

Since adding five new faces to his squad in January, Yates has tinkered with his starting line-up, but he admits he is yet to find the right formula.

"It's what I am paid to do and I have got to start doing it better than I am at the moment," he said.

"I have total belief in the players, but they have to show more.

"I have been well backed by my chairman (Paul Baker) and we've brought in a lot of good players so we need to put a marker down and start picking up the results we need.

"We know we have the quality to win any game and hopefully we can start tonight."

Yates was reluctant to give much away in terms of his team selection, but he did confirm there will be changes.

The likes of Sam Deering, Russ Penn and Darren Carter will all feel they have a good chance of returning, while wide men Jermaine McGlashan and Kaid Mohamed are likely to be dropped after failing to produce the goods on Saturday.

"I have a cunning plan and if we execute it we can beat anyone," Yates said.

"We have to work hard, stick together and I want a clean sheet as we've not had one of those for six games and Scotty deserves more than we have.

"I will pick a team I know is capable of winning and we have to work out how to get that spark now."

While Cheltenham have not visited Fleetwood before, Yates took his Kidderminster Harriers side there for an FA Cup fourth-round qualifier in 2009, which the Cod Army won 3-1.

"It's a very nice stadium and the owner (Andy Pilley) has pumped a lot of money in and they've improved it further," Yates said.

"I don't think the pitch is in the best condition, but a lot of places are the same after the weather we've had.

"I know of their manager (Graham Alexander) from Michael Duff at Burnley and for the career he had, and he's started out in management at a good club.

"He will have his own ideas and it will be a big test for everyone."
