Cheltenham survived an early scare when a Bristol striker broke through one-on-one, but stand-in goalkeeper Katie Walker blocked, suffering a hand injury in the process.
Walker, deputising for the unavailable Ash Lebbon, battled on in some discomfort and Cheltenham took control.
Donaldson went close with a lobbed effort and Charlie Griffin shot wide after evading the attention of several defenders.
But Hopson tucked in her first in the 34th minute and Donaldson's stooping header made it 2-0 after a fine cross from Griffin.
Catherine Reilly's shot rebounded off a post in the 43rd minute and Megan Lloyd followed up to make it 3-0 at the break.
Within four minutes of the restart Cheltenham were 4-0 up, when Griffin's corner was met by Reilly and her effort hit team mate Donaldson, but she slammed in at the second attempt.
Bristol pulled one back with a shot from outside the box, but Hopson claimed her second and Cheltenham's fifth in the 71st minute after half-time substitute Lydia Amarquaye's free-kick caused problems in the penalty area.
Donaldson hit the post and Lloyd had another effort blocked on the line by a defender, but Bristol pulled another back in stoppage time.
Cheltenham are now the only team in the division with a 100 per cent win record and they travel to Weymouth next Sunday.
