Cheltenham traffic lights due to be turned off
Traffic lights in Cheltenham town centre were due to be turned off this morning in a three week traffic trial.
Highways bosses agreed to a test where lights in St Margaret's Road were turned off to see how it effected rush hour traffic.
The lights were still on at 7.15am this morning.
Temporary islands and extra signs will be introduced to ensure road users are aware of the new layout.

“Just used this stretch of road on the way home. One of the bollards has been placed in the middle of the road outside the Holiday Inn. But hey, what would you expect with St Pauls a stones throw away!”

“@originalbjm- Agent006 has reported that TiG can't be bovvered to use the correct speeling, again. Affected or effected, rather like their, there and they're, sound the same but have totally different meanings.”

“I've just been through and they turned off the ones I thought they would. The ones at Henrietta Street, so the cars coming up the side of the hotel with the narrow end of road restricting view point so hard to get out of the road, and asking cyclists to commit suicide by trying to cross from Henrietta Street either going straight on or turning right. This in short is a crossroads, and left on the ones where there is a better view point for getting out of the side road, and these lights have been a pain in the ar** since they got installed for the Brewery, and put in because people are too lazy to walk down to the existing lights at Henrietta Street to cross the road. This just proved that the planning of the car park for the Brewery was not thought out at all, they could have planned so the pedestrian entrance was near a existing crossing not put another one in.”

“So, have they now been turned off? How about an update, TiG?
And if they are now off, what's the traffic like?”

“Great idea but why only in rush hour and not late at night/early morning when there is little traffic around. Driving through town at night and in the early morning can/is a real pain when you keep coming up against red lights with no other traffic around. Surely it would save the Council money in electricity and might even save me some in fuel. But hang on that sounds like a bit of common sense - oh well worth a thought!!”
