Children celebrate true meaning of Halloween
SAINTS in Tuffley managed to recapture the true meaning of Halloween on Wednesday by holding a Festival of Light.
More than 70 adults and children took part in the Light Up Our World event at St George's Church in Grange Road by creating their own lanterns, saintly hats and shields, stained glass candle windows and candle cards.
Reverend Jonathon Ross-McNairn, of St Georges's, said: "The idea was to recapture the true meaning of Halloween while celebrating the life of Jesus and all the saints ahead of All Saints Day. That is the origin of Halloween.
"All the children passed through a dark tunnel with candles to illustrate the importance of light and we let off a sky lantern at the end. It was a lot of fun."

“I couldn't have put it better myself, Geraint. "True meaning", my posterior. Halloween was originally Samhain, or the day of the dead.”

“...... "The idea was to recapture the true meaning of Halloween…." You mean the idea was to reinforce the Christianisation of ancient Pagan festivals of the dead. Sadly the hideous American imposition that is "Trick or Treat" has now usurped both traditions.”
