HAVE YOUR SAY: Children's books
Classic books such as Just William and Little Women have dominated a list of favourite children's books of all time selected by children's laureates.
Quentin Blake, Anne Fine, Michael Morpurgo, Jacqueline Wilson and Michael Rosen revealed their choices, with not a Harry Potter adventure in sight.
-

Only five of the 35 books selected were published in the last 20 years and a fifth of the titles were released in the 19th century.
Charles Dickens's Oliver Twist was the oldest, a clear 170 years before the newest title to make the grade – Mr Gum And The Dancing Bear by Andy Stanton, published last year and described by Rosen as an "eye-watering comedy".
Seven titles from the 1930s made it, including The Sword In The Stone by TH White, Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild and PL Travers's classic Mary Poppins.

“Biggles books, good old fahioned tales of decent chaps mens men, all men together killing foreigners.
Billy Bunter the fat lazy stereotype.and of course Rupert Bear with his sidekick Piglet who went round with no trousers on.
Thats the stuff kiddies should be reading, not about politically correct boring stuff which makes them want to play Video games instead”

“Bedknob and broomsticks - really exiting, I couldn't put it down. (Almost set fire to the house by bending my reading light right down onto the surface of my bedside table, as my parents kept yelling at me to switch it off)! Also the Golden Compass trilogy - great stuff.”

“Unfortunately they haven't written the one about respect for other people's feelings, property and ear drums. Or if they have it obviously no ones read it.”
