CIRENCESTER Town striker Scott Griffin could miss the rest of the season after picking up a nasty knee injury in Saturday's defeat to Gosport Borough.

The former Gloucester City and Cinderford front man was injured late on in the 2-0 defeat in Hampshire in a challenge withGosport's Glen Howes.

The injury rounded off a frustrating afternoon for Cirencester and their manager Brian Hughes.

"There is no place in the game for a challenge like that and it looks like it could be a bad injury," said Hughes.

"I spoke with Scott on Sunday and it was sore and swollen.

"We won't know the full prognosis until the swelling goes down and the physio can have a proper look at it.

"It's disappointing for Scott and it just about rounds-off a frustrating season for him."

The injury came late in the game with the Centurions already trailing after two first-half strikes.

Cirencester put in a much-improved second-half showing but were still unable to garner any points from the game.

They make another trip to Hampshire tonight to face Andover and Hughes will be hoping for a livelier performance.

"We were disappointed with both of the first-half goals and it looked like a tired performance," said Hughes.

"We're having to churn out the fixtures like everyone in the league and it's difficult.

"You certainly feel more tired when you concede first and that is what happened on Saturday.

"We were chasing the game in the second half, and although we improved, it was too much to overcome.

"However, we won't over-analyse the game. We were five unbeaten before Saturday and we didn't analyse those defeats.

"It will be the same with what happened on Saturday, we will draw a line under it and move on to the Andover game and try and get ourselves a result there."
