Citizen editor: Calling time on pubs such as the Ridge and Furrow will not help community spirit
WHEN it comes to calling time on an Abbeydale pub, residents have certainly made their opinions known.
A petition of 2,000 names is no mean feat and shows the strength of feeling against the plans for the petrol station.
Kevin Jones is right when he raises fears about the loss of the Ridge and Furrow.
After all, pubs are not just places for people to get a drink but they are a focal point for communities, a meeting place for everyone from groups of friends to sports teams. People have met best friends in them, fallen in love or toasted the life of someone they hold dear in them.
