Against the backdrop of the disappearance of little April Jones this week and the desperate search for her, I feel that the soundbites of the politicians at the party conferences seem so hollow.
I watched the church service this morning on television from Machynlleth and was moved by desperation of that community to have April found.
Then there were the hundreds of local people walking down the main street of the town together wearing pink ribbons.
I then looked at the Chancellor George Osborne saying there would be no Mansion Tax as demanded by the Lib Dems.

Then William Hague was talking abour Boris Johnson and the leadership of the Tories. What seems to me important today, and for the last week, is that we have witnessed the coming together of a close knit community in Machynlleth all hoping above hope for April's return. They were joined initially by searchers from all over Wales.
Here in Gloucester Cathedral, prayers have been said for April's safe return. April's name seems to be on everyone's lips.
We cannot escape politics, of course. But the real world today in most people's minds was not in Birmingham at the start of the Tory conference, it was in the town of pink ribbons.
