Citizen editor: Is moving Gloucester Police station to Eastern Avenue truly the best thing for the city?
GLOUCESTER Police Station is on the move to Eastern Avenue but while this will save the pennies what message does it send out to those living and working in the heart of the city?
We believe it won't affect the number of officers on the ground and we understand there is a real need to ensure the best use of resources but this new station is rather out of town. The Bearlands site is past its best admittedly but is the answer to move the station way out of the centre?
It also means less police workers coming in and out of the city each day. We have only just run the story this week about the cafes here needing footfall only to announce today another workforce is leaving the heart of the city.
