THE PR company responsible for promoting one of the world's richest football clubs has got themselves a new client – Viney St Swithins FC.

Anomaly have offices in New York and London.

Their clients include Sony, Umbro, Diesel and Converse, as well as Manchester City.

Arguably their most famous advertising promotion was the 'Welcome to Manchester' poster featuring Argentine superstar Carlos Tevez, when he quit Manchester United to play for rivals City.

Viney manager Simon James said: "Anomaly's interest in us is certainly not financial, they just want to see how they can influence a small football club.

"It's exciting for us, but we don't really know how things are going to pan out."

The bizarre link-up came about through Viney football coach Gary Sutton and his pal Alex Haines, who works for Anomaly.

Haines hails from the Forest and says he would probably be playing for the villagers if he hadn't moved to London to work in advertising.

James added: "It's not a flash in the pan.

"They've seen our set-up and spotted a bit of potential.

"Some of Anomaly's top people came down to meet us last weekend and lots of things were discussed.

"They've certainly shown willing."

Viney have already netted themselves £3,000 worth of kit, which includes full playing strips, tracksuits, training kit, polo shirts, jumpers, rain jackets and club bags.

Anomaly now want to develop and promote Viney's following worldwide, using social media sites.

They have also designed a club crest. Other future promotions could include friendly matches against teams of ex-pros, and offering a box at Manchester City games to Viney's men of the match.

"We've gone from having Steve Turley Builders on our shirts to Sony," added James.

Haines said: "All of our brands are looking for clever, interesting communication and with Sony's sponsorship of all FIFA and UEFA competitions we have a serious commitment to football, which we are bringing to life from the grassroots to the World Cup.

"As supporters of football at all levels, we want to see if we can help Viney St Swithins to improve and grow as a club and to follow the story of how that develops."

Today, Viney's first-team will play their opening friendly at home to a Forest Green Rovers XI (3pm).

The Forest Green side is expected to include mostly reserves and under-18s.
