It includes appearances as a guest soloist in a headline slot at the Last Night of the Proms in 2009, a performance on The Late Show with David Letterman and the accolade of Classic FM Listener's Choice Award.

Conducting the concert is Santtu-Matias Rouvali, a young Finnish conductor who has quickly made waves in his native country by conducting some of its major national orchestras.

He conducts a German and a French Symphony, either side of the trumpet concerto.

David Whelton, managing director of the Philharmonia Orchestra – arguably an ensemble with the greatest claim of any orchestra to be the UK's national ambassadors, says: "It's a real pleasure to be returning to Cheltenham once again, with solo artists of this quality.

"Alison Balsom's achievements over the past couple of years have reached some of the extremities that are possible as a performer.

"It is a pleasure to be working with her in this very special concert."

It's on Sunday at 7.30pm. For tickets, from £14, call 08445 762210.
