MOTORISTS have been urged to drive carefully with foggy conditions expected today.

Police issued a warning over the treacherous conditions, which reduced visibility in the area for large parts of yesterday.

Met Office weather experts predicted a foggy start to today with visibility " very poor" for most of the next 24 hours.

It is then due to lift with conditions improving by Wednesday.

Inspector Joseph Tierney, of Gloucestershire police, said motorists were being advised to exercise extra caution.

"The foggy conditions have meant driving conditions are difficult at times," he said. "We urge people to drive carefully if they are on the roads."

The warning comes after gritting teams at the county council said they were poised at the ready should temperatures suddenly dip.

Councillor Will Windsor Clive, cabinet member for roads, said: "We are prepared for winter and ready to go out and treat the roads if cold weather hits."

    “Most drivers had their headlights on this morning on the M5 & M50, but there were still a few only using side-lights, and one or two with no lights on at all.

    Assume they consider that because they can see where they're going, why do they need to turn their lights on...??? Probably the same drivers who know they're about to turn / pull out, so why do they need to indicate.....”
