Closure decision postponed for Spa Inn in Stroud
THERE was a stay of execution for the closure threatened Spa Inn in Stroud when planners deferred their decision on its possible re-development as housing.
The Spa, off Oldends Lane in Stonehouse, was earmarked for future conversion into a dwelling, with two pairs of semi-detached houses in the existing car park, councillors’ learned.
But the meeting of the development control committee of Stroud District Council postponed its crucial decision on the pub’s future for “further information” on its marketing as an inn, a council spokesman said.
Earlier it seemed time was about to finally be called at The Spa after specialists working for its owners Wadworths said the outlook for trade there was bleak.

There were two other pubs within walking distance in Stonehouse, the surveyor advised.

Protests from people keen to retain the pub however led to the decision on The Spa now being delayed until next month.
