Coach Suddell expecting Gladiators to show more improvement
THE Gloucester Gladiators are on the brink of what promises to be an epic battle for honours on the university American football circuit.
They had a disappointing season in 2012 in the British University American Football League, but the campaign ended in a 38-0 win over their bitter rivals Worcester University Royals.
There were no points up for grabs in that game, though, so the result, although good for the egos of the team, was somewhat muted.
But fortunes seem to be on the up with the Gladiators coming back from their summer break with a new purpose in life – to put their dismal displays of 2012 behind them and shoot for the top.

Head coach Stephen Suddell said: "The coming season is going to be a tough one and we have a lot to improve on. Last year, with a very limited squad, we won only two Conference games, these hardly worthy of any note.
"But after some mid-season reorganisation, we did end on a high with a 38-0 win over Worcester University.
"This year we are confident of a lot better.
"We have had an excellent intake from the Freshers and the squad is around the 45 to 50 mark which is approximately 25 more than last year."
Suddell said they had enjoyed a good pre-season with a lot of second and third years giving up time for a camp focused purely on American football, to get a head start.
The Gladiators first game is on the road at Plymouth on November 4.
