INTREPID adventurer Jamie McDonald, from Tredworth, has left for his latest endurance world record attempt.

Just months after cycling home from Bangkok to Gloucester, Jamie has been furiously planning his next adventure to run from coast to coast across Canada.

Jamie hopes to raise £60,000 for the Pied Piper Appeal at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital where he received treatment as a young boy.

If he succeeds, he will be the first man to run the 5,000-mile route unsupported and hopes to complete the run in just 270 days. He says his family have reservations about his world record attempt.

"My dad is always really enthusiastic with everything that I do but mum is terrified," he said. "She is most worried about the grizzly bears so I'm trying to get hold of a 'bear banger' to scare them off."
