ONE of the UK's fastest growing coffee shop chains has come to Gloucester.

Coffee #1 was set up in Cardiff just over 10 years ago and has since spread throughout South Wales and now the South West of England.

The new store in Northgate Street is the company's second store to open in Gloucestershire within a few weeks after Tewkesbury invited in the coffee chain last month.

Area manager Emma Hack said although the store in Gloucester is one of 24 in the UK, she felt it offers a personal feel.

She said: "I think it feels different to other coffee franchises and not like a massive chain.

"We offer quality coffee products so hopefully we will be judged on that as well as the service of our staff who are all local and have been trained individually by the same coffee professional.

"We are really happy to be here in Gloucester and hope that people come and try us out.

"We will certainly make them feel very welcome."

The company was recently taken over by Brains Brewery, which said in May it planned to open 30 coffee shops over three years as it diversifies from its traditional pub business.

“Jane's Pantry is overpriced, and I don't think much of their food.

Thanks for the recommendation, Sandra; I'll try out Spoilt For Choice next time that I want to visit a cafe in Gloucester (which I admit isn't very often).”

“If more local shops were opened beyond 4pm, they would perhaps be better off. Hedleys or Henleys, the one opposite the main council offices in Gloucester on Westgate Street, has the chairs stacked on the table by 3.30pm. Why? They clear up and can't wait to go home. Why?

This is the benefit of the other shops, it is the longer opening hours and not feeling like you are a burden.

There is a shop in Gloucester that makes the nicest coffee but it is as though it is just too much trouble and if I go in I am the only one in there and that is if I can get there before 3pm!”

“At FGR v Ebbsfleet tonight, cup of tea or coffee plus cake in the Carole Embrey Suite at half time or after the game is £2 as always. Come and help us go for number 1 spot in the Conference”

"The borough council said it was "disappointing" that Coffee #1 had opened its shop in Tewkesbury's High Street without gaining the necessary consent."

    Mmmmmm?”

“The best place to have a lovely snack/drink in the city centre is Spoilt For Choice in Hare Lane. ( Opposite the chip shop ) .Lovely home cooked food/cakes at extremely reasonable prices , it's small, but always busy and you get a lovely welcome from the owner and her mother . I wouldn't go anywhere else not that I've found it !”

“The most expensive takeaway in Gloucester I think is definitely Jane's Pantry. I brought a pasty from there and it was all pastry, the filling was not as it should have been and I was shocked at the price, Gregg's was much much better and much much cheaper.

I have been to Jane's Pantry once (trying to support my local!) but that was all. Wouldn't go back in.”

    “honslknjklyt,
I think you will find most of the newly opened Greggs now have a seating area (ok, just a few bar stools + a high table) like the new one in Brockworth.

So they DO have to clean up after the customers 'eating in'. In fact I can only see Greggs branches getting bigger & bigger - their rapid expansion has come just at the right time of the double-dip recession where people are looking for value. Same applies to Subway. I reckon McDonalds are the loser.”
