Employees came from across the college's sites in Gloucester, Cheltenham and the Forest of Dean.

Gloucestershire College principal Greg Smith said: "The awards ceremony is always a fantastic night where we celebrate the success of our staff across the college.

"A record 200 nominations were received this year, and I was especially pleased to see many colleagues recognising and appreciating the contributions of others outside of their own department."

Magnificent

Chair of the Board of Governors Graham Ripley, congratulated all the winners and said: "The awards are an excellent acknowledgement of the magnificent work of our highly talented and committed teaching and support staff."

The awards were sponsored by Pearson, Stagecoach West, Markey Builders, Vale Press, Gloucestershire Media, Pelican Buying Company, Willans LLP and IRIS.

“MartinArkway - concur with your analysis - what Plaindealer means (my analysis) is that those that count in the decision and dish out the subsidies have already stitched it all up to get the outcomes they want. Don't forget Cinderford Regeneration planning and consultations, changes to track, have been going on for well over a decade and much like the Tantalus Cup - water everywhere but the poor chap unable to drink.

Where the antagonists of the move from Five Acres are failing is to call for a thorough examination, and referendum on council subsidies to Cinderford regeneration and for any consequent planning concessions to developers at both sites - need to look up the powers of the local parish/town councils under the Localism legislation and campaign for a 'no special favours' policy and open book examination of any hidden subsidies.

Ultimately the only way the move will be stopped will be at the financial incentives all round - by exposing the sham consultations and stopping council/other public subsidy - not by marches or shouting out loud in the press.”

“Plaindealer, your arrogance is stupefying. Your arguments are far from cogent. Simply arguing everybody else is wrong does not make you right.

You label people you don't even know with negative charcteristics and emotions, and expect everyone to just accept your opinions as right. I think you've been watching too many episodes of US TV programs like "Criminal Minds" and "Law and Order". Or maybe "The Apprentice". You obviously take delight in profiling people, even if the profiles are wide of the mark. Crackpot psycho-analysis.

And, pray tell, what is your profession? I think there is many people who are interested in exactly what you do that affords you such (misguided) insight into people's emotions. Education? Local Government? Social Sector? Mind reader?

And as far as GlosCol not taking a battering over the Five Acres move, I only based my observations on public opinion. Opinion which is overwhelmingly in favour of no move. Sure much of the opinion is from Colefordians, but that is only to expected. I didn't see many people from Cinderford follow your call for a pro-move march.

I ignored the opinions of the likes of Patrick Molyneux and Brian Robinson, Council bigwigs who have lost much political credibility in the Forest. I ignored the opinions of our MP Mark Harper for, well, we all know why. I ignored the opinions of Greg Smith and Garry King, senior executives of companies who are going to do nicely our of the sale of the Five Acres site and the regeneration of the Cinderford site, and who also sit on the Cinderford Regeneration Board.

You say the move has received overwhelming support from all the organisations and public individuals that actually count. Please regale us with the names of these organisations and public individuals that "really count". Many people would like to know whether these organisations and public individuals will in any way benefit from the move.”

“Ahh Plaindealer, defender of all things Glos Col ! we here in the Five acres area were actually having a sweepstake on how long it would take you to type your propaganda for Dr Smith, thanks I think I win. As you are well aware this is the type of nonsense the college is peddling to try and deflect from its many deficiencies , the worst of which is the running down of a once happy successful college. All you good people I would not bother arguing ! treat articles of this nonsense as the claptrap they deserve and do not be sucked into a discussion of how splendid all things Glos Col are , you cant have decent debate here i afraid. i particularly like the "By the way, i am told that the college has felt no "battering" on the five acres issue. You very greatly overestimate its real effect. In fact it has received overwhelming support, thus far, from all the organisations and public individuals that actually count." comment.

Which as this person well knows is tosh or else glos col and its associates would not feel the need to produce such non stories, Guess what Plain dealer , we aint going away, Council scrutiny announced last week over 5 Acres, perhaps the college will be asked to show its books and figures, the real ones that is. I expect the usual response perhaps even provided on Glos Col headed paper”

“Ohhdear, thank you for clarifying which of course I accept. Although I am far from in agreement with you about how organisations should target staff incentives. I understand that this event also hosts the large businesses that the college wishes to grow closer too and it is they who help fund the cost of the evening!

MartinArkway I take your comments as a great compliment. Forming a view and arguing interest in a cogent and ruthlessly determined way is a quality I have always respected in my business life and is a trait among the many of my profession. Of course if you disagree then you will naturally think me misguided. But of course I am not, in my view it is you.

By the way, i am told that the college has felt no "battering" on the five acres issue. You very greatly overestimate its real effect. In fact it has received overwhelming support, thus far, from all the organisations and public individuals that actually count.”

“Plaindealer, I assure you there isn't an ounce of jealousy in my comment. I am trying to make the point that I, as well as the majority of hard working people go the extra mile to ensure targets are met, customers are kept happy and business keeps coming in every single working day. The idea that staff should be treated to a 3 course meal with all the expense of running such an evening, to reward what most people would call normal duty, with college funds is wasteful and pretentious”
