Meanwhile £3,033 will be given to The Gardens Gallery in Montpellier to help pay for its green-energy project.

Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust will receive £3,830 to help teach people about the River Chelt.

Speaking at a meeting of the cabinet, leader of the council, Councillor Steve Jordan, said: "I think this is always a very positive process and we have done this for a few years.

"The enthusiasm that people greet it with is great and the work that is done around the town because of it is great.

"We were well oversubscribed again but I was very pleased that we were able to support 16 of the bids."
