FUNDING for community schemes in a village near Tewkesbury has been welcomed.

Community leaders in Eckington say they are glad to have been awarded £12,179 from Wychavon District Council.

The money comes from the New Homes Bonus scheme, introduced by the Government last year to plough money back into areas where new houses are being built.

In Eckington, the parish council will use the money to deliver a series of benefits to the groups, teams and organisations at the heart of the community.

George Glaze, the parish council's vice-chairman, said: "As a small village we were anxious to maximise any benefits. After due consideration, it was decided that by submitting a community application, the benefits would be spread widely within the village infrastructure and assist the largest number of people."
