Concerns over Tuffley Library future
CONCERNS have been raised over the future of Tuffley Library after it closed on two separate occasions because of a lack of staffing.
The library, in Windsor Drive, was given a reprieve in January after original plans set out by Gloucestershire County Council earmarked it for possible closure.
However, the 2010 proposals were thrown out by a judicial review after it was deemed to be unlawful in not taking into account vulnerable people. As a result, Tuffley, Matson and Hester's Way libraries continue to be run by the council.
But Sarah Howard, 43, a nutritionist of Bodiam Avenue, Tuffley, said the community is concerned these latest signs may be an indication of bad news still to come.

She said: "People are worried that the library might yet close and we don't understand why they haven't managed to get the staffing levels right.
"When Tuffley was originally earmarked for closure, they laid off the staff but had to take them back on again, after it was reprieved, on short-term contracts. I don't understand why they did not keep them on. The library has been closed twice in October and it is a worry."
Sally Middleton, operational group manager at the council, said: "We have recently had unexpected levels of staff sickness at Tuffley Library and would like to thank our dedicated relief staff for making sure the service has remained largely unaffected.
"We have now recruited a new staff team at Tuffley, led by a principal library assistant who is currently being inducted into the role, and three other staff who are waiting for the correct clearance before they start at the end of the month."
