Convenience store in Tuffley given the go-ahead
RESIDENTS in Tuffley can look forward to shopping at a new convenience store.
Plans for a new shop on the site of the former Witcombe Service Station in Grange Road were approved on Tuesday night.
Gloucester City Council's planning committee discussed the issue at great length, with some members concerned about the impact on local trade.
At the meeting on Tuesday, Councillor Phil McLellan (LD, Barnwood) said: "I know this is a derelict site that needs to be brought back into use.

"But do we want to damage a local shopping area just for the sake of regenerating this one?"
Councillor Gerald Dee (C, Tuffley) added: "This is a difficult problem we face, and this will impact local traders.
"But what can we do? The independent study shows the potential impact would be at an acceptable level.
"So we are forced to make a decision based on that. Reluctantly I think we have to accept it."
The application was approved with four votes in favour, three against and one abstention.
