Cool motorcycle invention Ventz set to go global
A COUNTY inventor's first creation could be about to go global.
Martin Warren from Huntley, has designed a product for motorcyclists to wear in hot weather which will help them cool down.
Named Ventz, Martin was invited to speak about the creation on Simon Mayo's BBC Radio 2 'Innovations' show last week. Since then he has been inundated with interest in the product.
He said "There have been calls from Germany, South Africa, the US and Australia, along with a skiing company who are interested in adapting the technology. It's literally going worldwide."

Ideas for the invention, which is patented, were ignited after a personal experience with the issue. Martin said: "Often when touring myself, and as many other motorcyclists I'm sure are aware, when you're riding for a long time and in the sun, the heat can become unbearable.
"I got fed up with the problem, scratched my head on what I could possibly do, and then spent the last 12 months developing this product and getting it to where it is now."
The item works by slotting under the cuff of a rider's jacket, with the air vent helping to create a regular flow of cool air underneath motorcyclist's protective clothing. Special materials used in the formation of the item also ensure it is comfortable on the skin, and shatterproof in the event of any accident.
Already sales of the product have outweighed production and development costs, which is UK manufactured. Despite this success, the former production engineer doubts he'll be in a rush to create anything new in the near future.
He said: "The level of effort and time needed just to get one product to the market is phenomenally high. I do have other ideas, but due to the huge workload involved, I think they will have to be shelved for now."
The Ventz products cost £14.99p.

Well he's wrong! On a hot day, remember that far back, wearing the sensible bikers kit, it gets really hot even when driving at 70mph like we all do on motorways. It's worse in town - stop start and sitting at traffic lights sweltering.
At least with Ventz you get cooler air forced up your sleeve - this pushes the warm/hot air out of your jacket (otherwise you'd look like Michelin Man). YES - its a simple elegant design and it works. if you don't need them - don't buy them!!
However, if you are a serious biker and get sweltering in the summer these work and at £7.50 a sleeve, expensive - I don't think so.”

“Not wishing to knock Mr Warrens inventiveness, but it strikes me as a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist to be honest.
I ride a motorbike every day. Even if you had loose cuffs or indeed a 'Ventz' in place, there's no guarantee the flow of air will go any further than your elbow, where the clothing will tend to constrict naturally. So although I haven't tried it, I doubt the result is very effective at all.
And £14.99 is a lot of money for a couple of bits of plastic that will most likely fall off and be lost once you've taken your gloves off and they are no longer helping them stay in place on your cuff.
As a biker you soon work out what works and what doesn't I'm afraid. Windscreen wiper for your visor, anyone?”

“Very neat - the best inventions are the ones that you look at just think "d'oh, I should have thought of that" - this is simple but effective - nice one!”
