Council bosses to meet Planning Minister to discuss housing plan
OFFICERS from Cheltenham and Tewkesbury borough councils and Gloucester City Council will travel to London on Monday to discuss housing plans with the government’s Planning Minister.
Nick Boles, minister at the Department of Communities and Local Government, will host the meeting in Westminster.
He will be talking about the councils’ plans for more development in the county, as outlined in the three authorities’ housing blueprint, the Joint Core Strategy.
Andrew North, chief executive of Cheltenham Borough Council, said: “The meeting follows on from an invitation we received from the planning minister, Nick Boles MP, to a meeting about the duty of local authorities to cooperate with each other in drawing up development plans.
"An early meeting was considered timely owing to the forthcoming council meetings to discuss the Joint Core Strategy (JCS).
“The leaders of Cheltenham, Gloucester and Tewkesbury, together with Mike Dawson, chief executive of Tewkesbury Borough Council, and senior planning officers from Cheltenham and Gloucester will be attending the meeting - and will be seeking assurances from the planning minister on a number of issues."
The JCS will see 33,449 homes built across the three areas between 2011 and 2031.
