FURIOUS Val Vedmore has accused Aldi of making a mockery of the planning system.
She lives next door to the retail giant's new store in Gloucester Road, Tewkesbury.

She was angered after it obtained planning permission to open until 9pm, rather than 8pm, from Monday to Saturday.
The town councillor said it would increase noise problems for her and other people living close to the shop.

Now she has claimed that Aldi published brochures advertising the later opening times before it got permission.
She said: "The brochure was out from October 28 but the planning didn't go through until October 30, so the brochure must have been printed well before that.
"It makes a mockery of the planning system."
The extra hour was approved by the borough council's planning committee.
While some residents agreed with the concerns, others supported Aldi had opened the store.
It heard there were 21 letters of objection from people worried about noise pollution, but a 31-name petition backed the move.
Nobody from Aldi was available for comment.

“Maybe Councillor Vedmore's complaints would be listened to if she weren't to do her weekly shop there, some people who live closer than she does are glad the shop's there.”

“" making a mockery of the planning system" or just taking a bit of a business risk?
Mrs Vedmore, you my dear lady are what we call a NIMBY.
Lets hope if the manager of the store see her coming after 8pm they tell her where to go.”

“A councillor who doesn't understand the planning system. Tut tut. As Bonkim has pointed out, Aldi knew that the application was going to be approved, as the officer report would have been in the public domain for weeks before the planning meeting. In order to disagree with the council officer, the members would have had to find some legal technicality or something. 9pm isn't late. It's not like 24 hour opening.”

“Time for her to worry, is if they apply to go for 24 hours opening times, like Tesco's. Opening until 9am is hardly unreasonable for a supermarket.”

“Don't you just love nimbyism when it effects a councillor and there's nothing they can do about it.”
