Councillors say 'yes' to supermarkets
SUPERMARKET giant Sainsbury's has been give the all-clear to open in Lydney.
And Asda has moved a significant step closer to building its much-desired new shop in Cinderford after councillors agreed to both yesterday.
A packed public gallery at Forest of Dean District Council's planning committee cheered as members went with officers' recommendations to approve Asda's bid, which has been the subject of a lengthy and complicated legal challenge from the Midcounties Co-op.
It is only one step on the way to realising the dream though, with more detailed plans still to be approved on top of the outline proposal centring on access to the store yesterday.

While that application followed officers' recommendations, councillors had to go against the planning department's opinion in saying 'yes' to a Sainsbury's at Crump Farm on the outskirts of Lydney. The store will create 180 jobs.
