Councils may pool services to save cash
BUILDING control duties could be combined by three councils to save money.
Gloucester City Council is likely to add its building control department to those of Cheltenham Borough Council and Tewkesbury Borough Council.
Members of the city council overview and scrutiny committee will meet on Monday, September 9, to discuss a report which outlines how the change could possibly be made.
A shared service with the other two councils is estimated to cost each council £20,000 to integrate their computer systems, on top of a £15,000 planned upgrade by the city council in October.

However, a saving of £88,000 is estimated if the service manager and principal building control officer posts are not recruited but a new head of the shared service, could cost each council around £17,000.
The city council cabinet is being asked to recommend that negotiations start with the other two councils, to join their existing shared arrangement.
