Country matters in focus
LAURENCE Robertson has secured a House of Commons debate on trying to protect the countryside.
The Conservative MP for Tewkesbury will lead the debate on Thursday. It will also focus on planning policy and housing projections.
Mr Robertson believes it is key to tackle the subjects at a time when green belt land is under threat in Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and Gloucester because of housing plans being drawn up by the councils for the areas.
He said the situation was confusing because the Government had said it wanted to protect the green belt, beauty spots and flood risk areas but councils were under pressure to allow houses to be built on them.
