CINDERFORD director of rugby Andy Deacon is expecting a tough encounter against defending champions Dings Crusaders in the County Cup on Sunday.

The Foresters, Dings and Old Patesians are the only three clubs in the competition this season and the winner will be decided after they have played each other on a round-robin basis.

Cinderford are preparing for Sunday's match at Dockham Road (2.30pm) buoyed by positive showings against the top sides in National League One and a 22-12 victory over title-chasing Rosslyn Park last Saturday which has resulted in them moving up to 12th and four places off the foot off the table.

Dings eased their own relegation concerns with a 26-22 home win over Worthing Raiders in National League Two South to sit two places off the bottom in 14th spot.

Despite operating at a higher level in terms of divisions, Deacon said Cinderford wouldn't be taking Dings lightly.

Deacon said: "Dings will push us hard and it will be a great chance for the coaches to see the strength and depth of the squad and observe players we don't always get much chance to see, as they all push for selection for the next league game.

"We also have to uphold the high standard of play and good form that we have seen in recent league games, but this pressure does tend to bring out the best in us.

"It's important also that we support such traditional competitions in our county, so I call out to all rugby supporters to come and watch on Sunday in what will be a bright and cold day."

The Cinderford starting line-up presents a mix of experience and youth in an exciting blend.

Danny Trigg retains his place after impressing against Rosslyn Park last weekend.

Jack Wakefield and Nathan Green make their first-team debuts having played consistently well for Cinderford United.

Kai Done and Dewi Scourfield present an experienced midfield, with a back line led by Pete Towers at ten and Luke Carter.

Scrum-half Carter gets to start and more game time after a long period out with injury.

James Brooks, after returning to play for Cinderford, looks to establish himself at loosehead while Chris Bundy starts as tighthead as he continues his comeback from a shoulder injury.

Sam Wilkes retains his place following an impressive 60 minutes against Rosslyn Park.

Second row Roger Birkin is a new signing from Clevedon RFC and Rich Mountford makes his first-team debut after impressing in the United games, as does Ashley Brown at six.

Jake Kitson at seven will relish the chance to start after coming off the bench for the first XV this season.

Ben Sparks, a recent new signing from Stourbridge, will start the game at eight.

On the bench is experienced prop Joe Smart, alongside Mike Baldwin and Tom Napier as the front five replacements and Nicky Gait, an experienced United winger.

Stefan Hawley and Nico Woodward will be looking for game time off the bench following return to fitness after injuries.
