County chief backs new season structure
GLOUCESTERSHIRE chief executive Tom Richardson has welcomed the proposed changes to the domestic cricket schedule.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) last week revealed a number of changes to the domestic schedule for the 2014 season.
The CB40 competition will be replaced by a new 50-over competition, while the Twenty20 tournament will run throughout the summer, instead of in the mid-summer block as in the last few seasons.
The FriendsLife t20 will be mainly played on Friday nights, with first-class games in the two division County Championship scheduled to start on Sundays.

The changes were based on the results of a survey of more than 25,000 people through the ECB website and were hailed by County chief Richardson.
"We are pleased with the ECB announcement and in particular with the changes to T20," Richardson said.
"We have long advocated an appointment to view for T20 and we see the 12-week period, with one match per week being the norm, as pragmatic and client-led, with over 25,000 people having been surveyed.
"Friday evenings will be excellent for these games especially as by 2014 we will have our new pavilion in place.
"We also welcome some weekend starts for LV County Championship matches and members will welcome the fact that there will be no reduction in the number of matches to be played, as well as the retention of a symmetrical competition."
