GLOUCESTERSHIRE Under-20s have been handed a home tie against Cheshire in the quarter-finals of the National Championship on Sunday, April, 7.

The venue is yet to be confirmed but with defending champions and the county’s conquerors in last season’s final, Yorkshire, failing to emerge from their pool, Mike Panaho’s men will fancy their chances.

However, they will have to have play significantly better if they are to progress to the semi-final stages after not having to get out of second gear against North Midlands last Sunday.

The county youngsters cantered through 20-16 at Cinderford with the visitors also going through as group runners-up.

Gloucestershire scored all of their points in the first half with UWIC scrum-half Sam Watkins and Filton College wing Auguy Slowak scoring tries.

Skipper, Filton College’s Jack Skelton, kicked ten points to lead 20-5 at half-time before North Midlands hit back in the second half of a scrappy game.

Cheshire qualified as runners-up to Championship Poole One winners Lancashire following victories over defending champions Yorkshire, 28-5 at home, and Northumberland, 41-20 away, with their only loss coming at home to the table toppers 26-22.
