Cow rescued from the River Severn
Firefighters came to the rescue of a cow stuck in the River Severn on Saturday morning.
The heifer was helped out of the water at The Parting near Sandhurst at around 9am.
A passer-by saw the cow and dialled 999.
A team of 10 from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service’s specialist animal rescue team and a boat crews were called out to help the animal.
A spokesman for the fire service said: “Once in attendance the boat was mobilised and the crew managed to successfully assist the cow to the safety of the riverbank and a nearby field.
“Crews were detained at the scene for a total of two hours.”
Chief fire officer, Jon Hall, described the incident as a “text book rescue” in a tweet.
