A crackdown on under-age drinking is set for Chipping Campden.

Police are working with the town council, district council and two local licensees to launch a campaign to stop adults buying alcohol for under-18s.

Officers from the north Cotswolds safer community team have been at the One Stop Shop and Co-op on the High Street to remind shoppers that proxy buying is illegal.

PC Caroline Paxford said, "Research has shown that in some cases of underage drinking children have been bought the drink by adults, which is known as proxy purchasing.

"Often the adult hasn't realised that it's against the law to do this, so we hope this campaign will educate people about the law, especially with the long, hot, summer holidays coming up."

“They did come to Bourton to do this a few weeks ago. very good idea as too many adults buy alcohol for the kids. The council could also look at banning booze from the village green.”
