PLANS to build a cycle path across a playing field in St Mark's have been approved.

Cheltenham borough councillors discussed the proposal to construct the path across the King George V playing field, just off Brooklyn Road, at the Municipal Offices on Wednesday evening.

The 2.5 metre wide pathway, which will also be used by pedestrians, will run from the Bedford Avenue field entrance to the entrance at Brooklyn Road.

The move comes after council consultation revealed residents use the field as an access route for local facilities.

“@ Desenchanter as they have done for decades!

You would have thought that in these times of struggling funds this money could be spent else where on things that actually need doing.

Here's an idea. Why not spend the money on the Edinburgh Place, not more than 100 yards away from the Brooklyn Road entrance to KGV, where the top surface has been wasted away for months now!!! :rolls eyes:”

“Do they really need to spend thousands of pounds of taxpayers money to put a facility in when people are managing to traverse the field perfectly well as the situation currently stands ?”

“@OnTheSofa - mate...you only need to go there and see the place to know people use it to get from one side to the other. It's common sense!

It's been like it for decades lol In fact, you don't even need to go there, just look at it on a map or even Google maps!

You certainly do NOT need to have a consultation about it.”

“"The move comes after council consultation revealed residents use the field as an access route for local facilities."

    No Ship Sherlock!!!

So they needed a "consultation" to reveal that residents use the field as access to local facilities???

I'm 48 years old, and for as long as I can remember this has always been "used as an access route for local facilities."

Did they really "need" a consultation to find this out? Seriously!”
