Were Daleks modelled on Gloucester school chimney?
Dalek designer Raymond Cusick may have sketched the Dr Who baddies after seeing a Gloucester school chimney.
Mr Cusick died last week, and it's passed in to High School for Girls folklore that he designed the robot with the chimney of the 104-year-old Denmark Road building in mind.

"Apparently whoever wrote Dr Who saw it on top of the school," said a school spokeswoman.
"They were staying in Gloucester, I believe."

She said most of the pupils and staff know of the story.
"I don't know if there is any truth in it but a couple of residents told me about it when I was knocking on doors in my ward a couple of years ago," said city councillor Seb Field (LD, Kingsholm and Wotton).
It emerged in 2008 that Mr Cusick took his cue from a pepper pot but the Denmark Road "Dalek" which is an original feature of the building certainly bears an uncanny resemblance.

Derrrrrr, no, because seeing one up there on the roof, the designer would have thought immediately that they could travel in three dimensions, instead of the two that they travelled in for their first forty odd years.”
