Death sentence gran Lindsay Sandiford "was well-known drug dealer" - author
A GRANDMOTHER from Cheltenham who has been sentenced to death for drug trafficking in Bali was a well-known dealer on the island, it has been claimed.
Lindsay Sandiford, who once lived in Hester's Way and Warden Hill, was arrested in May last year after police in Bali found nearly five kilos of cocaine in her luggage.

The 56-year- old claimed she had only agreed to carry the contraband in order to protect her two sons, Lewis, 23, and Eliot, 21, who she said were being threatened.
Judges on the island left her shell-shocked yesterday after they handed down the death penalty, ordering her to be shot by firing squad as a consequence of her actions.

Kathryn Bonella, who has written about the island's criminal underworld in a book Snowing in Bali, said despite Sandiford's pleas of innocence she was a well-known face in Bali's drug world and had been seen making regular trips from Britain via India.
In claims to TheTimes newspaper, she said: "She used to bring (hashish) in from India and sell it on to one of my contacts, but had recently moved into cocaine. I know a number of big Western drug dealers who fled the island when they found out that she had been busted and was turning rat."
Sandiford had been based in India since early 2012.
She has been told a number of lines of appeal remain open to her – and she has six days within which to act.
The appeal process could take years.
The British Government has vowed to do all it can for her after Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood pushed for the embassy to get involved.

“If the allegations that she was a well known drug dealer is true then she deserves to suffer the consequences. She must have known that to deal in Bali was punishable by death and she still went ahead so she deserves everything she gets.
If only this country had more serious sentences like other countries then maybe the crime rate would be a little lower......”
