“What a waste of polices time. I feel sorry for the accused person. Although someone willing to make stories up like this must surely be suffering from mental health issues".”

"Is Matt1006 the only one to have read the article?
"The report to police was made by a third-party in good faith and the alleged victim has since confirmed that the offence did not take place."
What part of that is so hard to understand?"
Who on earth do you think you are? So that is it then, it was all 'made up'? The part that is hard to understand is: the offence did not take place and the third-party in good faith bit - apart from that it's another dreadful article with very little information - leaving the reader more confused than ever before.”

“Does this girl realise the fear she has caused throughout the Longlevens area? Damn right she should get charged. And it doesn't matter that it was a 3rd party that reported it. She could have denied this occurred from the beginning. A reckless and dangerous waste of time.”

“So the "third party" must had some reason to believe the "victim" had been attacked. How did that come about? Something must have happened and/or been said for the third party to come to the conclusion a rape had happened. Or was it all a sick game by the third party, for some reason or other...?
If the non-incident occurred in January, when were the police first contacted, and when did they then establish there was nothing to it all? All a little curious.
At least there was no attack, and therefore no traumatised (or worse) "victim". Similarly there is no wrongly-arrested man. Whether anybody is due a charge for wasting police time is for the police / CPS to decide.”

“Something about this case just does not add up. I sincerely hope this is not a situation where a genuine victim has decided not to press charges due to the hassle of going to court and the damage to her reputation that might ensue.”

“So what charges are they going to bring against Ms Anonymous? How many police hours were wasted and at what cost? Will she be billed for them? How many other crimes were not investigated due to this?
Glad the police didn't arrest a man who subsequently would have been named and shamed regardless, and, as in some cases, incorrectly convicted.”
