A DOG has been found abandoned in a field in Swindon Village.

The young male Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross was found tied up along a footpath at the Elmfield Playing Fields this morning.

He was tied to some hedges with string at the fields, which are adjacent to the Midwinter allotments site.

A Cheltenham Borough Council spokeswoman said the dog had been taken to Cheltenham Animal Shelter earlier in the day by his owner, but was turned away because it was full.

Clive Evans, community protection officer for the council, said: "We would like to try and establish why the dog had been left in the manner that he had. Any calls we receive will be dealt with in confidence."

The dog is brindle coloured with a white chest and nose.

He is now being cared for at the animal shelter in Gardeners Lane.

“Swindon Village must have grown since I was last there! Neither Elmfield Playing Fields nor Midwinter Alltments are in Swindon Village, they are both very close to the Animal Shelter.”
