SNIFFER dogs helping police crack crime in the county are getting used to new surroundings thanks to a campaign to find extra training venues.

The Gloucestershire police dog unit put out an appeal earlier this year for businesses and communities to come forward and offer up buildings to use for training scenarios.

Dog handler PC Claire Todd visited Saul Memorial Hall and Playing Field, and will now be using the area to train the 19 police dogs in the Gloucestershire Unit.

During the visit, children from Saul Under Fives Playgroup were introduced to Barney and Duke – a pair of hounds who play a starring role in vital police work in Gloucestershire.
